about the gardens
The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, located in Buffalo’s historic South Park, is a glass-dome conservatory and botanical center that first opened in 1900. Designed by Lord & Burnham within a landscape by Frederick Law Olmsted, it features lush indoor plant collections, a tropical orchard, outdoor gardens, and an accredited arboretum spread over 12 acres. The gardens offer themed exhibits, educational programs, art displays, and seasonal events, along with amenities like a gift shop and accessible facilities. Currently undergoing a major expansion set for completion in 2027, the site is adding a welcome center, classrooms, event spaces, a café, and improved accessibility while preserving its iconic historic greenhouse.
